Cops: Man Celebrating 30th Birthday Shot, Killed

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A man celebrating his birthday was shot and killed in the city's Fairhill section late Monday night.

Police say they responded to the area of Allegheny Avenue and F Street after numerous 9-1-1 calls around 11:30 p.m.

Once on scene, Chief Inspector Scott Small says they found a man lying unresponsive in the street suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper back and to his head.

Small says the man had been out celebrating his 30th birthday.

"Based on witness accounts, the victim was involved in a prior physical altercation with other males in the immediate area and we believe that is the motive for this shooting."

Small says the victim was rushed to Temple Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"This individual was shot and killed on his 30th birthday."

He says there are several surveillance cameras in the area, and one of them recorded the entire incident.
