Canned Wine Surging In Popularity

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – If wine in a box is not for you, but you like something easier to transport than a glass bottle, wine in a can may be right up your alley.

Sales of canned wine have more than doubled over the last year, from $6.4 million to $14.5 million.

One central California winemaker got in on the trend in 2013. He says canned wine is better than bottles for many reasons.

“It’s not like if you buy it that day you have to drink it that night. Canned is better than bottles because there is no light hitting the product so it keeps the product super fresh.”

Experts say while canned wine makes up less than one percent of the market, it is still a big hit, especially with millennials because cans are affordable and portable.

Sheesh. Will we ever learn?? These cans are lined with a ‘plastic’ film. Sure…that must be safe for us. Thanks but we will stick with glass bottles only.
