Police: 4-Year-Old In Philly For Treatment Dies After Falling From 7th Floor Balcony

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Emergency crews were on the scene on Tuesday night after a young child suffered a fatal fall in West Philadelphia on the 3800 block of Conshohocken Avenue.

Authorities say a 4-year-old boy fell from a 7th floor balcony at the Imperial Towers in Wynnefield Heights.

Officials say the boy was transported to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

They say that the child was from Saudi Arabia and was in Philadelphia for medical treatment.

The boy died as a result of the fall. He was pronounced dead around 7:15 p.m.

Police say he climbed up on the heater to get out of the window and on to the balcony.

The boy's parents were present at the hospital following the accident.

"He was face down by the time I got around there," said one witness who asked for their name not to shared. "They had picked him up already, so I checked for the baby's pulse and his neck. I couldn't get a pulse. I check to see if he was breathing. He wasn't breathing."

"It's crazy because I can't imagine just seeing the father there next to his child. It was a crazy experience," another witness on the scene said.

"We're not quite sure how he winds up coming over top of the balcony and onto the ground," said Philadelphia Police Lt. John Walker. "Obviously the parents are distraught at this time."

No charges have been filed at this point and no identity has been released.
