McCain On Trump: I’ve Been In A Lot Of Locker Rooms; I’ve Not Heard Comments Like That

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Senator John McCain talked with Dom Giordano on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT and commented on what Donald Trump referred to as “locker room banter” referring to a recorded conversation the Republican presidential candidate had with NBC host, Billy Bush in 2005.

He also discussed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and Republican Senator Pat Toomey.

Giordano: Big picture isn’t Trump the superior guy to Hillary Clinton vis a vis the Supreme Court and those issues?

McCain: “First off, I don’t know because I hear him saying a lot of different things. I was at Andrews Air Force base when bodies from Benghazi — the four brave young Americans when Hillary Clinton looked the parents of one of those brave young Americans in the eye next to the flag-draped coffin of their son and said ‘I’m going to get the guy that made a hateful video that caused the death of your son.’ Knowing full well at the time, we know from leaks from the server, that she knew very well it was not a hateful video. So she lied to the parents of a dead American next to his body. I can’t think of anything worse than that.”

“And the case of Donald Trump what bothered me more than I can tell you was his statements about working with the Russians and the Iranians and Bashar Assad in order to take on ISIS. My friend, it is the Russians and the Iranians and Bashar Assad that are slaughtering people as we speak. They are targeting hospitals, they are killing.”

Giordano: Senator, was it that or I thought you were still trying to get him over the finish line?

McCain: “It was the women thing as well.”

Giordano: What about the women, senator?

McCain: “It’s not what he said, it’s what he said he did.”

Giordano: And you don’t see that as just bragging?

McCain: “Bragging is one thing. I’ve been in a lot of locker rooms, my friend, and frankly I’ve not heard comments like that.”

Later McCain spoke favorably of Republican Senator Pat Toomey.

McCain: “The strongest argument I can make is to return Pat Toomey so we can make sure that there is not three places on the United State Supreme Court that will change this country for decades. I guarantee we’ll be there.”

Giordano: How would you be able to stop that when you weren’t able to stop Sotomayor for example?

McCain: “I think in the case of Sotomayor they were able to convince some Republicans. I promise you that we will be united against any Supreme Court nominee that Hillary Clinton, if she were president, she would put up. This is where we need the majority and Pat Toomey is probably as articulate and effective on the floor of the Senate as anyone that I have accounted for. And I think he’s one of the most valuable members of the United States Senate and I know he’s working hard and Pennsylvania is always the place where the action is.”

Giordano: Your own race — what’s the big issue there for listeners in Arizona for you and your opponent?

McCain: “Obamacare is really a big issue. It’s imploding in Arizona, I promise you. I don’t know how it is in Philadelphia or Pennsylvania but it’s out of control. All but one of our counties, they only have one provider. And their estimates of increases, dramatic increases in premiums and co-pays are high, deductibles are high. The whole thing is a disaster. Remember if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor; remember if you like your policy you can keep your policy — period? That was Barack Obama. Again, Pat Toomey has been one of the leaders in the fight against Obamacare. I don’t say this very often but I need him as a friend if we’re going to defend this nation and I need his strong voice on behalf of the men and women in the military and our veterans.
