New Mural Honors Musical Legends Of 20th Century

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The city of Philadelphia unveiled it's newest mural Saturday afternoon honoring some of the city's music legends.

The mural titled 'South Philly Musicians Remix' covers the side of a building at Broad and Tasker, and features the likes of Frankie Avalon, Chubby Checker, Danny Cedrone, Al Martino, Charlie Gracie, Jerry Blavat and more.

Blavat said the mural will help future generations take pride in their city's great contributions to American culture.

"We might not be around, but they'll say - 'who was that? What did they do?' - and they'll Google the name and they'll know who we were."

Frankie Avalon reminisced on his South Philly roots, a place he said will always be home.

"I don't care what you were - if you were Irish, Italian, Black, whatever it may be - you knew your neighbors. Your front door was open."

The mural unveiling was part of Philadelphia Mural Arts' mural month celebration.
