New Federal Regulations Of Overtime Go Into Effect Soon

PHILADELPHIA, PA (CBS) -- New federal regulations regarding the payment of overtime by businesses go into effect on December first.

The Fair Labor Standards Act outlines the overtime regulations released in May.

Jessica Jennings is compliance manager for West Chester-based PrimePay, she said it's important that businesses and workers get familiar with the new policy.

"It's critical that any employer that has non-exempt employees, so employees that they need to pay overtime to, comply with these new regulations."

Jennings said small and medium-sized businesses as well as large corporations are subject to the regulations.

She said failure to comply means penalties.

"They would definitely be on the hook for paying that employee overtime if they had not already and then there would also be other civil penalties."

PrimePay is holding a free seminar on the regulations on Wednesday at the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce offices in the Bellevue.
