You'll Need To Check Badges To Tell Identical Twin Cops Apart

by KYW's David Madden

CAPE MAY, NJ (CBS) --  Some of you may remember the late Patty Duke portraying identical cousins on a TV sitcom in the 60s.

But there's a pair of identical twin sisters down the shore who have followed remarkably identical professional career paths...in law enforcement.

Kara and Kourtney Brussell were raised in the Poconos, went to college to study criminal justice and wound up in Cape May, where they interned and worked fill-in shifts on the police department. Now they're both full time officers together.

Kara says there's no real sibling rivalry going on here. "We were very competitive in sports and in school," she told KYW Newsradio. "But now that we're older and we're in our careers, I think we're more supportive of each other and want to see us succeed in everything that we do."

Their chief doesn't plan to schedule them to identical shifts, mind you, but Kourtney says they like the shore town and could well settle down there. "I would just keep training and getting our experience up and keep going in the ranks and we both plan on being here for, I guess, the 30 years we have to do."

Mid 20's, and thinking about a pension. Now there's a life plan.

The twins have a birthday next week. They live separately, and Kourtney is engaged to be married.
