Food Truck Owner: City Councilwoman Threatened Us Over Our Name
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Alanna Li, the co-owner of the Wheely Wheely Good food truck that services University City on 33rd St., says Philadelphia City Councilwoman Helen Gym threatened them and insisted they change their name and logo, insisting it was racist.
Li, during an interview with Rich Zeoli on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, asserted Gym told her she's not welcome in the community.
"She told that if we don't change our name, because she says she highly suggests us to change our name, she said if you don't change your name, I will make this personal, I will do everything I can on social media to tell everybody about you guys...She also said I'm ashamed that you guys are part of Night Market, I don't not hope to see you guys in Chinatown, in Center City or around my neighborhood."
She alleged Gym threatened greater scrutiny from the Department of Licenses and Inspections if they did not yield to her demands.
"She also told us that I make sure I call L&I to check up on you guys. I told her, feel free to do what you have to do because we have everything we need to be out here running our business. We have our license, our permits. We have everything."
Gym posted pictures on her Twitter account following an encounter with Li last month of her daughter next to Li's truck holding a sign that said 'racism sucks and so does this.'
