Braves Make Late Push Past Phillies, 5-2

ATLANTA (AP) — Freddie Freeman's 30-game hitting streak ended when he struck out in the eighth inning of a tie game Thursday night, but the Atlanta Braves managed to score four runs after that off Philadelphia closer Jeanmar Gomez and beat the Phillies 5-2.

Tied 1-1 with rookie Dansby Swanson at first base, Freeman whiffed to end the longest hitting streak in the majors since Dan Uggla (33) in 2011.

Matt Kemp followed Freeman with an RBI double off the wall in right field, Jace Peterson added an RBI single and pinch-hitter Emilio Bonafacio drove in two more with a hit off Gomez (3-5).

Mauricio Cabrera (5-1) picked up the win with 1/3 of an inning of work.

Swanson hit his third home run to tie the game in the sixth.

The Braves have beaten the Phillies seven straight times, and won 10 of 11 overall. Philadelphia is heading home after losing six of seven on a road trip that saw them outscored 68-33.

Philadelphia starter Jeremy Hellickson, who entered 12-10 with a 3.78 ERA, left with a 1-0 lead after 3 1/3 innings because of a sprained right knee.

He helped himself before he hurt himself. After singling to left in the third inning, he moved to second when Atlanta starter Josh Collmenter hit Philly's Freddy Galvis with a pitch and then scored when Adubel Herrera lofted a soft hit to left field.

Swanson's homer was his first in Turner Field. He had hit primarily in the No. 8 spot since being called up from the minor leagues last month, but interim manager Brian Snitker moved him to No. 2 on Thursday.

The Phillies' best chance to do more damage came in the eighth inning. Galvis stole second base with two outs only to be stranded when cleanup hitter Tommy Joseph lined out to left.

Collmenter, who the Braves acquired Sept. 14 from the Cubs for cash, appeared in relief in 15 games for the Diamondbacks before released their 2015 opening day starter.

TRAINER'S ROOM

Philadelphia LF Roman Quinn, who left Tuesday's game against the Braves with a strained oblique after registering hits in his first three at-bats, may be finished. "I doubt if he'll play the rest of the year," Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said.

TIGER TALES

Atlanta's final opponent is shuffling. The Tigers will start LHP Daniel Norris (3-3, 3.59) Friday against the Braves after his scheduled Thursday start against the Indians was postponed by foul weather. RHP Jordan Zimmermann was to start Friday against Atlanta, he will instead go Saturday. RHP Justin Verlander will start Sunday for the Tigers, who are chasing a wild card spot in the American League.

UP NEXT

Phillies: Philadelphia returns home for an off day and then will close the season with two games against the Mets.

Braves: RHP Matt Wisler (7-12, 4.86) will make his final start Friday. It will be his first against visiting Detroit.
