Villanova Visits Elon Saturday, Looking For Fourth Straight Win

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It will be all Colonial Athletic Association action from here on out for the Villanova Wildcats starting with a trip down to North Carolina for a Saturday match-up with Elon University.

Villanova has won three straight games after opening the campaign with a loss to the University of Pittsburgh. Last week, the Wildcats beat Lafayette, 31-14, at Villanova Stadium. Villanova scored two defensive touchdowns in the win, including a 25-yard fumble return for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage by defensive lineman Tanoh Kpassagnon.

"That sort of set the tone for the defense the rest of the day," Villanova head coach Andy Talley tells KYW Newsradio.

Listen to the entire interview with Villanova's Andy Talley:

Villanova already has scored four touchdowns on defense this season (two interception returns, two fumble returns).

The Phoenix bring a 2-2 record into this game and they are coming off a huge win as they beat a William & Mary team last week that was ranked in the top ten, 27-10. This will be Villanova's first ever meeting with Elon and Talley says their win over the Tribe helps give his team an idea of the quality of the opponent they are about to face.

"It's a warning to our team that, hey, these guys are pretty good," Talley says. "Because we have a great deal of respect for William and Mary."

Elon is averaging about 18 points a game heading into Saturday.

"They are a one-back offense," Talley says. "Run the ball, throw the ball, have a nice balance."

On defense, Elon allows a little under 23 points per game.

Villanova and Elon will kick-off at 3:30pm on Saturday.
