Subaru Donates 2000+ Books To Camden Schools

By KYW's David Madden

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) -- Public schools in Camden got a helping hand from a soon-to-be corporate neighbor.

Subaru officials and volunteers showed up at Catto Community School to distribute more than 2,000 science-related books to 17 schools across the city.

"We know we must work in partnership to prepare our residents to make the most of the new jobs coming in, whether they be in engineering, construction and/or the medical field," Camden Mayor Dana Redd told KYW Newsradio. "And our schools cannot do it alone."

Subaru is in the process of building a new corporate and training headquarters in Camden, across from Campbell's Soup. Chief Operating Officer Thomas Doll said this is just part of what the corporation hopes to do for the city over time.

"We at Subaru hope to provide teachers and students in Camden with the tools that they need to help educate and inspire the next generation of students that are coming up," he said.

This donation is part of a national effort to put 50,000 books in the hands of school children.
