Philadelphia Bridge Closed For Several Months Reopens To Traffic

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A heavily used Philadelphia bridge will reopen to traffic today at noon.

The Walnut Lane Bridge was closed for repairs back in April, but after the installation of a new bridge deck and sidewalk, the span used by about 16,000 vehicles every day is ready to be used again.

PennDOT Spokesman Gene Blaum says crews will continue to work on installing a second sidewalk and repair some concrete arches underneath the bridge, and that work won't be done for quite some time.

"The project is scheduled to be completed in late summer of 2017, but our contractor is working to get the job done ahead of that time frame."

The bridge will be in full use as that work is completed.
