Chris Christie Addresses New Jersey Opioid Abuse And Bridegate... Briefly
NEW JERSEY (CBS) -- New Jersey Governor Chris Christie announced ramped up efforts to combat opioid abuse in the state, and touched briefly on the ongoing 'Bridgegate' trial in Newark.
The state is marking National Recovery Month with a new rule banning seven 'fentanyl' knockoffs while doubling the size of its recovery coach program to include 11 counties, including three in South Jersey. The big problem, the Governor said, is to combat the stigma of addiction.
"The sin here is that it is treatable, but we're not giving people the permission they need to seek that treatment like any other victim of a disease in our society."
Christie concluded his discussion with a quick reminder to reporters about 'Bridgegate,' the trial involving two former aides now in its second week in federal court.
He reiterated that he knew nothing of the plan to shut lanes on the George Washington Bridge three years ago prior to, or during those closures. The Governor took no questions.
