Comcast, Netflix Put Aside Their Differences

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - After years of acrimony over pricing and signal quality, Netflix and Comcast have collaborated -- with the promise that viewers will like what they see from the deal.

Comcast subscribers won't have to leave their cable box to watch Netflix.

"We have 85,000 shows on demand on Comcast X1, plus all of what Netflix offers," says Comcast CEO Brian Roberts. "We've integrated them all together in the on-demand section."

Roberts demoed the tech at a Goldman Sachs investors conference this past week. Browsing to the show 'Scandal' on the X1 cable box, he sees his company has the rights to the current season on demand...

"...But the first four seasons are all on Netflix. And for the first time, it doesn't matter. Right there, you're able to pick what episodes you want to watch."

Something pique your interest and you don't have Netflix? Comcast will sell you a subscription right through the X1.

The Netflix integration should be rolled out by Thanksgiving to all who have that Internet-connected DVR. And, Roberts says, Comcast is negotiating with other subscription video companies:

"Our organization made a conscious decision that we're going to aggregate other people's content, some of which we sell directly and some of which we don't. And we've got to be the best for our customers as possible."
