Jay Lloyd's Getaway: Buddy Golf

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Fall temperatures are already putting some relief into mountains across Pennsylvania.

So what better time than now for a buddy golf getaway to the higher elevations?

Go north. Go west. Pennsylvania has a smorgasbord of options for fall golfers at tantalizing rates, especially if you can get away midweek.

How about two nights in villa accommodations and four rounds of golf on a scenic challenging course for about $160 a night? That's the fall ticket at Fernwood in the Poconos.

When summer visitors are gone, players find a world of difference beyond price.

"A lot of the holes, it's just you and whoever you're playing golf with," this golfer tells KYW Newsradio. "It's nice and peaceful out there."

Ditto if you head west for the gently rising Catoctin Mountains near Gettysburg.

The dual ski and golf resort of Liberty Mountain and Carroll Valley Golf Course is 2.5 hours west of here. $225 a night gets you a room next to the first tee, two rounds of golf, breakfast and dinner.

Nothing like looking at green ski slopes, anticipating winter while playing a cool round.
