Man Charged After Allegedly Stabbing Police Officer In Face

VINELAND, N.J. (CBS) -- Two police officers were injured in a physical altercation with a man in Vineland.

The incident took place on the 700 block of S. Valley avenue.

Authorities say they were on the scene to check on the welfare of a man on Wednesday afternoon, when the incident took a violent turn.

Police say the man was eventually subdued, but not until after injuring two police officers.

Vineland Police Chief Tim Codispoti says, "This is just a reminder of the dangers that officers can face on a daily basis."

The officers were both sent to the hospital as a result of their injuries.

Officials say Johnny Flores, 26, stabbed one of the officers in the face and head. The officer was released from the hospital.

Flores has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and related charges.
