Philadelphia Police Officer Accused Of Mailing Marijuana Package

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Police Department announced the arrest and dismissal of one of their own on Tuesday.

According to officials, Officer William Branish Jr. attempted to send a package in the mail which contained marijuana.

Police were notified of the alleged incident in January and began an investigation.

Authorities say Branish used an associated account at a local business to mail the package containing small packages of marijuana. Police say the package was returned to the company and was received by another employee working there.

Branish was arrested on Tuesday and charged with simple possession and possession with intent to deliver.

The 43-year-old officer is a 14-year veteran with the Philadelphia Police Department and worked in the 26th District.

Branish is currently suspended 30 days with intent to dismiss.
