Philly Police Stress Vigilance Following NY, NJ Explosions

By Tim Jimenez

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia's Police Commissioner says he is keeping close tabs on the investigations in New York and New Jersey.

Commissioner Richard Ross says there needs to be a team effort when it comes everyone's safety.

"So, we remind our officers to be more vigilant as well as the people around the city."

Ross says their job is to keep citizens safe and a big part of that is hearing directly from those people, especially when they see something out of the ordinary, which happens all the time.

"There's not a day that goes by that we don't talk about suspicious packages and being mindful of potential terrorist attacks and things like that."

Ross says they don't take calls about suspicious items or behavior lightly and they will investigate. He says those calls may make the difference and save lives.
