2 Officers Shot At During Police Chase In South Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Philadelphia police say for a second straight night officers came under fire.

The latest shooting happened just before midnight on Saturday along the 800 block of South Street in South Philadelphia.

Authorities say two officers were on patrol along South Street when they noticed two men smoking what appeared to be marijuana.

The officers approached the men and they ran away. Police say as officers chased the men, one of them shot at the officers.

“It is a miracle that the police were able to arrest these two suspects without firing, discharging their weapons,” said Captain Drew Techner.

Police say the two men, both in their twenties, remain in police custody.

The weapon was recovered at the scene.

The incident came a day after a an officer was ambushed in her patrol car in West Philadelphia and a University of Pennsylvania police officer and four other people were shot before the suspect was killed.
