Scoring Touchdowns To Fight Childhood Cancer

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A new initiative is designed to give high school football teams across the country the chance to help raise money for St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

MaxPreps.com -- a leading high school sports website -- and Pledge IT -- an online sports fundraising platform -- have teamed up to develop Touchdowns Against Cancer.

High school football coaches can sign their team up and fans can pledge an amount for every touchdown their favorite team scores.

Scott Shirley is the Founder and CEO of Pledge IT. He says so far more than 500 teams are taking part.

Touchdowns scored between last Thursday night and October 1st will count as part of the program. If your favorite team isn't taking part yet, Shirley says the window isn't closed:

"Teams can sign up throughout the campaign. So if you miss Friday night's game as part of the program, that's fine, the touchdowns still count if you sign your team. When fans pledge, they'll have the option to include past performance in that pledge."
