Police: Woman Hospitalized After Being Shot During West Philadelphia Robbery

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police are investigating after they say a woman was shot during a robbery in West Philadelphia.

Police say that shortly before 9:00 p.m., police responded to gunshots on N. 52nd Street near Filbert Street. Authorities say they discovered a woman, 31, shot twice in the chest and one time in the wrist.

She was taken to Presbyterian Hospital in stable condition.

Police say she was on the sidewalk when a man approached her and took her purse before beginning to shoot her. Officials say he ran south on 52nd Street and then west on Filbert Street. They add that it does not appear that the victim knew her attacker.

Authorities say the incident was captured on private surveillance. Police say they found the woman's purse and what matches the description of a dark colored sweatshirt that the man was wearing.

Officials say the suspect appeared to be in his 20's.
