Police Investigate After Teen Is Allegedly Sexually Assaulted At Made In America

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police are investigating allegations that a young festival-goer was sexually assaulted at this year's Made In America concert. "While she was watching a performer on stage, an individual, a male walked up behind her and sexually assaulted her," said Lt. John Stanford of the Philadelphia Police Department.

Police say the alleged incident happened on Sunday night around 9:00 p.m., near 24th and the Ben Franklin Parkway. Sources tell Eyewitness News that the 16-year-old victim told police the male pulled down her jean shorts just before the sexual assault and then ran off.

"She screamed, alerting other people that were in that area. She was transported over to a medical tent that was in the facility itself and then from there she was transported over to CHOP to be examined," said Lt. Stanford.

Made In American is now in its 5th year and uses both private security and Philadelphia Police officers. Tuesday, Lt. Stanford said while the event is considered safe, he admitted that the allegations are disturbing.

"With events this size, that's always a concern, in terms of any type of criminal activity that could possibly take place at an event," said Lt. Stanford. "We didn't have many incidents at this year's event or even the previous years, but not many incidents or one is one too many. "

Police have not made any arrests and say they are in the process of trying to find video that may have been taken around the time of the alleged incident.
