ITT Technical Institute Closes, Leaving Thousands Of Students In The Dark

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A for-profit technical college has closed all of its campuses in 38 states, including four in the Philadelphia region.

ITT Educational Services, the owner of ITT Technical Institutes released a statement Tuesday announcing the permanent closing of all of its schools effective immediately.

The announcement affects more than 130 campuses, including those in Philadelphia, Plymouth Meeting, Levittown and Marlton in South Jersey.

The closings come in the wake of a federal education department order issued at the end of August banning ITT Tech from enrolling new students who were using federal financial aid.

Federal officials cited the school for failing to meet accreditation standards.

ITT Tech says thousands of students and more than 8,000 employees are affected by the decision.
