Weather Blog: A Shift In Hermine's path

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A slight shift eastward in Hermine's path has yielded a significant improvement in the outlook for the shore, but the threat for moderate coastal flooding persists through Monday night.

Hermine remains off-shore as a powerful post-tropical storm near hurricane strength. It's forward progression has slowed to a crawl at 5 mph, a rarity for a system at this latitude.

Hermine has yet to make it's closest pass to our coastline--this will occur on Labor Day thus the threat for coastal flooding remains. The level of threat has lessened with major flooding appearing unlikely but moderate coastal flooding will be possible at high tides Sunday night, Monday morning and again Monday night with surge running at 1 to 3 feet above normal.

The strong wind threat has been reduced as well though gusts to 45 mph remain possible through Labor Day.

The heavy rainfall threat, which was low to start, has minimized to non-existent with only a few showers possible Monday and Monday night.

Though sky conditions may be conducive to beach-going over the next several days, it is extremely unsafe to go in the water due to very rough surf and dangerously strong rip currents. Be sure to yield all 'no swimming' orders.
