Presidential Campaigns Using Different Strategies To Winning PA

by Pat Loeb

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The major parties' presidential candidates are using decidedly different approaches to winning Pennsylvania, considered a key to victory in November.

Democrat Hillary Clinton launched her campaign from Philadelphia. She's been back twice and her campaign has opened nearly 40 offices, half of them in the five-county area, including seven in Philadelphia.

The Campaign's state director Corey Dukes says this is where the votes are.

"Pennsylvania is crucial and we have to make sure that we're getting out into neighborhoods and we're talking directly to voters," he said.

Three recent polls put democrat Hillary Clinton an average of six points ahead of republican Donald Trump in Pennsylvania, but her campaign is working like she's behind.

"We're not taking anything for granted. We don't care about polls, we don't care about pundits, we know that we need to talk to voters and that's the best way of getting them out to vote," said Dukes.

Republican Donald Trump's state campaign says it also regards the state as crucial, but it's taking a much lower-key approach.

It has just two offices-- in Conshohocken and Clark's Summit-- both opened within the last two weeks.

A spokesman, who could not talk on tape, says more are coming, in the Pittsburgh and Harrisburg areas.

He says recent visits to the area by Trump and Mike Pence show there is an efficient ground organization in place.
