Beach Goers, Businesses Hope For Best As Forecast Threatens Labor Day Weekend

OCEAN CITY, N.J. (CBS) -- Under gray skies, and a growing pile of sand, Paul McCade and his family are out to get the last grains of summer at the shore. "We decided to come out today and even though it wasn't that great, but these guys still love it."

With a looming threat of a potential strong storm on Sunday, signs of Labor Day losses are apparent in Ocean City.

Beachgoers On East Coast Dealing With Dangerous Rip Currents

"We had basically a full house and then with the weather, we've had a few people calling and saying it should I come, should I not come and I'm like just come at least one night. Take the chance," said Dawn Hodson of the Coral Sands Hotel.

"I don't mind a day of storms so that we can all stay in and play board games, but you don't want to be at the beach if it's going to storm," said Dominique Ryan.

Strong currents have lifeguards on high alert and extra warning signs for heavy surf are in place.

Rain or shine, some businesses, who banked on a big weekend, are not planning to back down. "I've experienced people coming in, walking down the boardwalk when it's pouring rain," said Cierra Granger of Yoasis Beach Bowls.

Will Hermine Impact Labor Day Weekend?

Inside Yoasis Beach Bowls on 12th Street, their fingers are crossed that they can end the season strong. "We are really hoping that the storm goes in a different direction and doesn't affect us, but I'm sure that we will still have a good amount of business even if the storm does hit us."
