Police Close In On Hit-Run Driver Who Killed Motorcyclist In Feltonville

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Accident investigators say they have identified a person of interest in a hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a 58-year-old man Tuesday evening in North Philadelphia.

Investigators spent the day building a case against the driver of an SUV who plowed into a motorcycle at the intersection of Whitaker Street and East Loudon Avenue in the city's Feltonville neighborhood.

"We are talking to the people in the area," said Captain Patrick Kelly. "(We're) in the process of recovering video from the area and processing the vehicle to recover evidence from the vehicle."

Police later found the heavily damaged GMC Yukon abandoned in an alley along Rorer Street. The driver apparently removed the license plate and ran. Captain Kelly is now urging that person to surrender.

"We want to get the message out to them to come in and give their side of the story," he said. "We're gathering facts as we speak. So it would be in their best interest to come in and tell their side of the story right now."

Police have identified the deceased motorcyclist as old Raul Perez.

Marybel Ruiz, the victim's girlfriend, tells Eyewitness News, "I cannot believe he passed away. He didn't deserve that."

She tells the hit-and-run driver to "Be a man, a human being, come on."

Police say the owner of the vehicle was located, but is not the suspect.
