Phillies Look To Avoid Sweep Against Nats Behind Morgan

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Phillies will look to wake up the bats tonight as they wrap up their three-game series with the Washington Nationals at Citizens Bank Park.

The Phillies have scored just two runs on seven hits in the first two games of this series combined. Both runs came last night courtesy of a seventh inning home run by Ryan Howard, his 20th of the season. This is the 10th time in Howard's career he's hit at least 20 home runs in a season.

Left-hander Adam Morgan gets the start for the Phillies. He is 1-8 with a 6.50 ERA. He lost his last start against the Mets in New York, allowing six runs in five innings of work. Morgan has really struggled keeping the baseball in the park this year. In 80.1 innings of work, he has allowed an alarming 20 home runs.

The Nationals will counter on the mound with left-hander Gio Gonzalez. he is 9-9 this year with a 4.25 ERA. He has made 18 starts against the Phillies in his career, going 8-6 with a 2.82 ERA.

The Phillies are just 4-10 against Washington this season.

KYW's Matt Leon spoke with Matt Breen of the Philadelphia Inquirer about Morgan and several other Phillies topics.
