Marlton Sports Bar Closes After 21 Years

By Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A longtime sports bar in Marlton closed its doors for good over the weekend. But town officials are optimistic the property will have new life before long.

After 21 years, the Champps sports bar in Marlton is no more.

The restaurant closed Saturday night, after its parent company filed for bankruptcy protection earlier this month.

Evesham Township Mayor Randy Brown is confident that a restaurant like Chickie's and Pete's, LaScala's, or P.J. Whelihan's will want to occupy that high-traffic property.

"I'm hopeful a restaurateur like that gets involved in the project because it's at the crossroads of 70 and 73. It's really at the entrance to our community there. And whoever is going to be there is going to thrive," said Mayor Brown.

He says that's because says more than 100 apartments are being built nearby, and that plans call for the neighboring Olga's Diner site to become a four-story fertility clinic.
