2-Year-Old Hit By Car, Killed In West Philly
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Authorities say a two-year-old boy has died after getting struck by an SUV Sunday night in West Philadelphia.
This happened around 6:45 p.m. in the 4800 block of Merion Avenue in West Parkside.
Police say the child was playing with his cousins when he ran between two parked cars, then darted out on the street. That's when the white Chevy trailblazer struck him.
The little boy -- identified as Ameen Rory -- was taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities say the 30-year-old female driver of the SUV that hit Ameen did stop and is cooperating with the police investigation.
Ameen's cousin, Jaime Morris, tells CBS 3 the driver was very distraught over the accident.
"He was so short, I don't even think the lady actually saw him until it was too late," Morris said. "I had the opportunity to speak to her for a minute and we allowed her to know that he did run out into the street so it really wasn't her fault."
Morris said Ameen was a smart and energetic child, who relatives affectionately called 'Scooty.'
