What's Cooking on 1060: Going Down Easy Cocktail Competition

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- This week's segment of "What's Cooking on 1060" mixes equal parts creative cocktails with charity.

The first ever Going Down Easy week-long cocktail competition runs Friday to Friday through August 26th. Competition founder Ariela Yankelewitz says those competing are Center City hotel bars:

"We really like a lot of the hotel bars and a lot of the mixologists attend the hotel bars so we wanted to promote those bars so people will go and have a drink and not just the guests of the hotels."

She describes the charity element:

"The hotels are going to be selling a particular cocktail that they choose and all the money that comes from that signature cocktail will go to a charity of their choice, and the hotel that manages to get the most money for their charity will be the winner."

Justin Leipert with the DoubleTree Hotel describes his hotel's featured creative cocktail, called the "Kalamansi."

"Starting from scratch, we do have housemade pineapple and mojito simple syrup. We also do the watermelon cubes, we actually blend watermelon which we then sift and freeze and put into the glass. Fresh mint and lime juice as well and them Kettle One vodka."

How many hotels are participating?

"There's 12 total; 14 bars in general, because some of the hotels have multiple restaurants and it's all in the spirit of charity."
