No Summer Doldrums For Philadelphia's Hospitality Industry
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Democratic National Convention was a boon to the city's hospitality industry, according to Philadelphia's Convention and Visitor's Bureau.
The Bureau's president and CEO Julie Coker Graham calls it a blockbuster summer, with nine citywide conventions:
"The highlight of the summer was the Democratic National Convention with over 35,000 attendees, and an economic impact that was anywhere between $250-million to $300-million."
But Coker Graham says the DNC was more icing on the cake than main course:
"This was just an added bonus to add the Democratic National Convention to a summer that was already filled with other convention groups."
She says visitors found the city walkable, and believe it or not, welcoming:
"What you heard from delegates and visitors is just how friendly our folks are, and they really rolled out the red carpet for visitors."
Maybe we can have nice things after all!
