Police: Missing Penn State Professor Found After Allegedly Being Pushed To Death

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (CBS) -- Authorities are investigating the murder of a Penn State professor, Ronald Bettig, 56. On August 15, an investigation began into Bettig's whereabouts when a report came in that the professor had not been seen since August 12.

Officials say that Bettig's body was found in a quarry in Centre County on Wednesday.

Authorities say that Bettig was pushed into the quarry by George Ishler, 39. Police say that Ishler led Bettig to the quarry by a "ruse," leading the professor to believe that there were marijuana plants at the quarry to be harvested.

Police say a witness claimed to see a a red, four-door vehicle parked near the quarry on August 12. They claimed that they saw a man and woman inside. Police say that Ishler and Bettig were accompanied to the quarry by Danelle Geier and that the three had recently traveled to Rehoboth Beach together.

Authorities say that Betting fell around 80 feet to his death.

Ishler has been charged in connection to the incident. He has been charged with murder, aggravated assault and tampering with evidence.

Officials say that the investigation is continuing as no motive has been determined. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact police.

According to the school's website, Bettig joined Penn State's College of Communications in 1988. He is the author of several books and teaches courses on the political economy of communications.
