Doug Pederson: 'Plan To Play First Team Offense Entire First Quarter'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Tonight will be a mini dress rehearsal for the Eagles' first team offense.

The Eagles play at the Pittsburgh Steelers, in their second preseason game on Thursday night. Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown, Le'Veon Bell, and DeAngelo Williams will not play for the Steelers, their first-string defense will.

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson says Sam Bradford and his first team offense will potentially play into the second quarter.

"I plan on giving the entire first quarter," said Pederson. "Hopefully, I can get a series or two into the second [quarter]. I want to extend their time obviously, more than three plays and get them some extensive work in the first quarter and a half."

"We're in a different stage of development collectively defensively than we are offensively," said Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin on playing his starters on defense rather than offense.

Rookie running back Wendell Smallwood is hoping to make his NFL debut vs. the Steelers. However, Carson Wentz, Mychal Kendricks, Mike Martin, Jordan Matthews, Jalen Mills, and Hunter Sharp have all be ruled out. Wentz will travel with the team.

New Eagles receiver Dorial Green-Beckham will not play as well.
