Khaki Shorts For Men In Workplace? The Debate Is Heating Up

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- July was the hottest month on Earth in recorded history, and August is pumping out one 90-plus degree day after another. But as temperatures change, dress codes do not. So what do professionals in Philadelphia think about proper work attire in the summer?

To free or to not free the knee? That is the question.

"I don't think that men should be able to wear shorts to work because it doesn't look professional," said one woman.

"I think they could wear shorts to the workplace, if it's business casual," said another woman. "But I do think that it would look out-of-place if they did."

"I wear a suit everyday because I think it looks professional," said one man. "Dress well and it will put you in the right mindset."

Business casual means pants and collared shirts for men, but Aaron would like to feel the same breeze as his female colleagues on sweltering summer days.

"On days when they know there will be extenuating heat, I think that we should be allowed to at least wear khaki shorts, something like that that's professional. It wouldn't be any type of basketball shorts or anything like that."
