Brotherly Love: Theatre Company Hopes To Help Non-Profits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A new theater company is offering more than a night of musical entertainment. Every ticket sold has a bigger purpose. We got a chance for a sneak peek.

In just a few weeks, Anthony Vitalo and Alexandra Rush will hit the stage in "Evita," so they're polishing every note.

"I've been waiting to play this role all my life," Anthony said.

Alexandra Rush said Eva Peron "is a dream role, so I'm very excited."

This new theater company, Cloak and Daggers Theatre Company, will donate 100 percent of net proceeds from their shows to charity.

Physician and part-time actor/director Vincent Thompson helped start the company. "We talked about it and said if we're going to do this, let's do it for something good," he said.

Cloak and Daggers picked seven charities to support this season. They cut their production costs. Much of it is donated. The actors are volunteers. The choreographer is donating his time as well. and the theater, the Penn's Landing Playhouse, gave them a break on the rent.

"If we sell out half the house every night, which is 250 seats, we will give a very nice contribution," Dr. Thompson said. "If we sell out the whole house every night, which is our real goal, we'll give close to $100,000 for each of the seven charities."

The first shows begin Thursday with a musical revue, "Showtune: The Songs of Jerry Herman."

Net proceeds from that show will go to Women Against Abuse. Jeannine Lisitski is executive director. She said, "It will go directly to our services that support women and children fleeing abuse."

Evita's net proceeds will go to St. Christopher's Foundation.

"The charities we're doing these shows for, it matters. It definitely matters," Alexandra said.

Tickets start at $25 and can be purchased at http://www.cloakanddaggers.org/theatre-ticket-sales.
