Philadelphia Takes Steps To Help Residents Beat Excessive Heat

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - An excessive heat warning for the entire region has been extended through Sunday night.

With that in mind, the city of Philadelphia has activated it's heatline through the end of the warning, and altered other plans as well.

Chris Gallagher of the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging says residents can, and should, call the heatline (215-765-9040) if they see anyone suffering from the excessive heat:

"They have the ability to send out a city health mobile team, that also has a nurse, out to the person's location, take vital signs, look at the person's environment to make sure they are going to be okay."

Especially, he says, call if they are concerned about a senior citizen:

"If they need some tips on how to keep cool or they know someone who is experiencing heat stress."

The city had also planned to close 21-pools this weekend, but decided to drop that number to eight to help residents beat the heat.
