Police Seek Suspect Wanted For String Of Daycare Burglaries

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police are looking for a suspect in connection with a string of burglaries involving daycare centers.

Authorities say he has already burglarized nine at this point. Police are asking business owners to be vigilant and protect their property.

"Someone is targeting daycare centers. He's done nine so far this year," said Captain Derrick Wood of the Philadelphia Police. "He did two in February. He took a break and came back in August and has done seven in the last week."

"Why would someone want to do something to children," asked daycare owner David Johnson. "They're the most beautiful jewels in the world."

Police officers held a town hall meeting to make residents aware of the uptick and they have surveillance photos of their suspect. They also know how he's gaining entry. "He's gaining entry primarily through the rears of the properties," Wood explained.

"He's taking electronics. He's taking cash. Sometimes he's taking nothing at all."

Police say these burglaries are happening at the close of business, between 8:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., usually.
