Minnesota Resort To Offer Snowless Skiing And Snowboarding
BURSNVILLE, Minn. (CBS) -- While much of the Delaware Valley is trying to soak up every last bit of sun, ski enthusiasts are more than likely pining away for colder weather.
The good news for them is that one resort seems to have found a loophole for the snow that's still several months off. Come mid-September people who visit Buck Hill Ski & Snowboard Area in Minnesota will be able to enjoy year-round snowless skiing.
According to the company's website, research for the slope began last October when Buck sent a team to Italy to visit the Neveplast factory, makers of a dry, synthetic surface designed for people to glide on like they would on snow.
Back at home Buck set up their own Neveplast test areas and invited top ski racers...
and snowboarders...
to try out the surface.
The resort shared a conceptual rendering of the finished product on Facebook.
Slope construction began in mid-July and the first batch of passes are already available online.
Burnsville is definitely a hike from the Philadelphia area, but the trip may be worth it for those who can't wait to slalom.
