LCB To Give Details On Expanded Sunday State Store Operations

by Tony Romeo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Liquor Control Board will announce details of expanded Sunday operations at state stores on Wednesday.

A spokeswoman says there will be a "significant" number of new stores open on Sundays, starting this weekend.

In June, Governor Wolf signed legislation making numerous changes to Pennsylvania liquor law, and provisions of the law, known as Act 39, are now taking effect.

"We have 188 stores that are currently open on Sundays from noon until 5pm, and one of the most immediate measures that we can implement from Act 39 is to expand the number of stores open on Sunday, as well as to expand Sunday hours," said Elizabeth Brassell, the spokeswoman for the Liquor Control Board.

The bill also relaxes restrictions on wine sales.

Brassell says on Monday, the first day the new law took effect, the LCB received more than 50 applications from grocery stores and restaurants to sell wine to go.

The LCB Monday also got more than 30 applications from business that want to ship wine directly to homes.
