App Used In Some Philly Bars Aims To Expedite Drink Ordering

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Bars in the region can get quite crowded in the summertime, meaning it might take you awhile to order a drink.

But a new app that was created and has launched in Philadelphia hopes to fix that.

It's called 'The Beer Me App,' but whether you're ordering beer, wine, liquor or mixed drinks, COO Mark Kozlowski says it serves the same purpose...speed up the process:

"By storing your payment information on your phone, it's secured by PayPal, you have the ability to do a transaction in a very short amount of time in comparison to conventional transactions."

After opening the app, you select the drinks you want right on your smartphone, show the bartender your screen, he or she serves them and your credit card is charged. It's a process Kozlowski says when done the old-fashioned way normally takes 60-90 seconds, but when using the app…

"It all pretty much is done usually under ten seconds, but it can go up to 25 seconds depending on the complexity of what was ordered."

And it all happens right in the palm of your hand.

"It's a way to improve the bar industry," Kozlowski tells KYW Newsradio, "it's a way to revolutionize the industry, what we're dealing with is pure efficiency."

He says not having to open a tab can make a big difference on your night:

"There isn't the question did I or did I not leave my credit card with the bartender, there's no tip at the end of the night because every transaction carries with it a set tip."

The app is now being used at a handful of bars throughout the city. To see where and to get more information, CLICK HERE.
