Study: English Bulldog Breed May Be In Trouble

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A new study from the University of California scrutinizes a popular breed of dogs.

Researchers say English bulldogs are cute, but at what cost?

They say the dogs have been bred to have cute faces and tiny waists, with no genetic diversity.

Researchers say there is no more natural birth for pure-bred English bulldogs, almost all deliver by Cesarean section.

Experts say the breed is in trouble.

Niels Pederson says, "The English bulldog is more or less the poster child for what can go wrong if a breed is pushed too far."

Researchers determined the English bulldog as we know it comes from just one maternal bloodline.
