Pollster Dissects New PA Poll Showing Trump Down 11 To Clinton
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Franklin and Marshall College Pollster Terry Madonna talked with Dom Giordano on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT about a poll they released today showing Donald Trump trailing Hillary Clinton by 11 points in Pennsylvania and reveals some ominous signs about his chances to be the first Republican to win the Keystone State since 1988.
Madonna said that Trump is too far behind with the key demographics of women and voters with college degrees at this point in the campaign.
"Trump is losing too many women in the Philly burbs and he's also losing too many college educated voters in the area of the state with the largest percentage of college educated voters."
In fact, he thinks the difference in gender support could be something we've never seen before.
"We know, nationally, we could be in historic country when we talk about the largest gender gap in history with Trump winning white men, Clinton winning white women."
Madonna pointed out that Trump is currently way behind in the counties surrounding Philadelphia.
"He's winning overwhelmingly in the places where you've got blue collar workers, high school educations or less, $50,000 a year in income or less, no doubt. But, he's doing more poorly in other parts of the state. In the four collar counties, Bucks, Chester, Montgomery, and Delaware County, I hope you're seated, he's losing 60 to 20."
He believes that if the race turns into a blowout on either side, it will have serious ramifications for the Senate race between incumbent Pat Toomey and his challenger Katie McGinty.
"If either Trump or Clinton win our state by 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 points, I think it's going to be very hard for the Senate candidate in the other party to prevail."
