Last Center City Record Store Selling New Albums And CDs To Close

By Steve Tawa

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's time to say R.I.P. to the days of browsing through the bins for new recorded music - on vinyl or CD's - in Center City, with the closing of the F.Y.E. store later this month at Broad and Chestnut Streets.

While there are some independent shops around, the competition includes music streaming services and digital downloads.

Tawa: 'How are you listening to your music, these days?'

"Through my phone, I download everything."

"It's kind of upsetting, this was the only brick and mortar store selling new records and CDs. There are some independent used vinyl shops around."

Tawa: 'Back in the old days, we would look at the album, handle it, read the liner notes...'

"Sure, yeah. That's what's appealing. Plus it's a warmer sound."

"I don't do that. I get my music off of Pandora."

"I was just saying, I'm thinking about getting me an album. Then, I thought about it, and I don't have anything to play an album on."

"No record player. The record player kind of went out like bell bottoms."

Tawa: 'Do you still have bell bottoms?

"I do."

"I wasn't born when bell bottoms were out!"
