How To Avoid Extra Credit Card Fees

by Lynne Adkins

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Most credit cards have fees that can add a lot to your monthly bill, but there are ways to avoid the extra expense.

The average credit card charges six different fees according to Matt Schulz, Senior Industry Analyst at CreditCards.com.

"Most of them have certain fees like a late payment fee, a cash advance fee, and, for the most part, most of these fees are spelled out in pretty big print in your credit card agreement," said Schulz.

Save money by shopping around for a card with fewer fees.

Also, change your spending habits, pay your bill on time, don't use the card to get cash advances, and make sure your payment isn't returned.
