Eagles Set To Enjoy Day Off

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- For five straight days, the Eagles full squad has been on the field for training camp workouts. Earlier in the week, rookies, quarterbacks, and selected veterans participated in three additional days of work.

The Eagles are ready for a time out.

A more demanding camp under Doug Pederson has resulted in more time on the field. The team went through a lighter workout on Monday, but many of the players were looking forward to Tuesday's off-day. The players will rest up before another busy stretch of six straight days of camp, and tight end Zach Ertz plans to take advantage of the time away from the football field.

"A lot of recovery tomorrow," said Ertz. "I'll probably try to catch up on some sleep and get a massage or two. You kind of just do everything you possibly can to feel like you did Day One."

The break will be especially welcomed by the rookies, who are going through their first NFL training camp. Quarterback Carson Wentz knows he still has a long way to go to settle in as a professional quarterback, but the rookie is happy with the progress he has made over the first stretch of training camp.

"I'm feeling confident," Wentz said. "I'm feeling comfortable. Every day, we're installing more. We're learning more. It's a process. It's not something you get all of overnight, but I'm feeling pretty comfortable where I'm at."

Sam Bradford has also looked comfortable throughout much of training camp. The quarterback went through a tumultuous off-season which included a trade demand when Wentz was drafted. Bradford says he has put the off-season behind him, and has a fresh mindset now that training camp is underway.

"Control what you can control," said Bradford. "At the end of the day, that's all you can do. Each day, just come out and give your best. Try to get better and try to help this football team, and don't worry about anything else."

The first preseason game is now ten days away. Pederson will likely continue to ramp up the intensity as the first test with Tampa Bay draws closer. For now, the Eagles will enjoy a well-earned day off, and Ertz and his teammates understand the dog days of August will bring more intense workouts to the NovaCare Complex.

"It's training camp," Ertz said. "It's going to be a grind. Guys know that. Guys embrace that. I think I'm really happy with how the team has responded the first five days."
