Dom Giordano Column: Inside The Madness Of Convention Coverage

By Dom Giordano

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- After two incredibly intense and important weeks on the road, it's good to be home. Let me thank everyone for all the compliments we received for our coverage of both conventions. The coverage we presented is due to a great team effort involving hosts, engineers, managers, and producers.

The convention in Cleveland was much easier in that we were able to get an Uber ride to within two blocks versus seven or eight blocks of the convention site in Philadelphia. If you listened a lot, you definitely would hear the buzz of people crowded into a small space chasing a lot of guests. The first part of getting a guest on the fly is identifying them within three seconds as they walk by. My boss and I contested all week on who could more quickly identify potential guests.

The most entertaining guests that I heard was the duo of Milo Yiannopoulos and Ann Coulter who were on with Rich. They drew a crowd at the site and were a great combination of controversy and fun on the air. Chris' interview with Ted Cruz's campaign manager on the day after Cruz's speech in which he didn't endorse Trump was as timely as anything in the media all week.

My interview with Senator Cory Booker the day after his big speech was very timely.

I also hope you enjoyed the interviews Chris, Rich and I did with our TV partners on CBS 3.

It's clear after both conventions that Pennsylvania is viewed by all insiders as a very big swing state. Expect that our coverage will be informative and entertaining.
