DNC Impact On Philadelphia Region's Economy

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A travel industry group says Philadelphia is likely to get a nice economic bounce from the Democratic National Convention.

The Washington DC-based U.S. Travel Association projects the Philadelphia region could net up to $180 million as a result of the DNC and its historic selection of the first woman to run as a major party candidate for president.

Joseph Grella, an association spokesman, says hotels, restaurants, and many other businesses in the Philadelphia area had a chance to share in the dollars spent:

"Folks spend, all things considered, about 300 bucks a day, which is quite a bit. That adds up."

Grella says the success of the democratic convention plants seeds for future big events in Philadelphia and will likely mean leisure travel visits by some of those who were here for the event:

"Whenever a city puts its best foot forward people want to come back."
