Thousands Of Journalists Get Taste Of Philly While Covering DNC

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Throughout the week, we've heard from delegates were getting a taste of Philadelphia while visiting for the Democratic National Convention. There were also thousands of journalists in town covering the event who have high praise for the host city.

Legendary broadcaster Bob Schieffer has been to Philadelphia before, but he said this latest trip for the DNC has been one to remember.

"Everybody from the cops to the hotel people," Schieffer said. "Philadelphia is a great place to come. There's so much to do here."

He says one of the most important and memorable moments for him was Michelle Obama's speech.

"Up until that time, people were saying Hillary Clinton's name aloud and there were actually boos in the hall," Schieffer said. "But by the time she got through with her speech, you weren't hearing those boos."

Philly was far different from when he covered the Republican Convention in 2000.

"It was a little bit easier to get around in those days," Schieffer said, "but all things being equal, I think Philadelphia did a really great job."

And what would a visit to Philadelphia be without trying the food or stopping at some of the more popular spots.

"Walking around the city was quite easy to do and [it was an] interesting city, as well. I think the vibe in general was very good," said Global News TV Brazil reporter Marcelo Lins. "I [went] to the Barnes Foundation, which was great. I've been to the Reading Terminal Market with the locals, mingling and trying here and there some different food, and it was great, as well."

Lins went to Cleveland for the RNC, then came to Philly, and now is set to return home to cover the Olympics in Rio.
