Officials In Philly Hold Forum On Revitalizing Urban America

By Justin Udo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Officials from Philadelphia and all over the country held a forum focused on jobs, wages and economic opportunity.

Pennsylvania State Senator Vincent Hughes hosted the conference which took place Wednesday morning in Center City.

"This is a conversation about the revitalization of urban America which has been left off the table for far too long."

Hughes says this meeting is not just meant to talk about issues, it's also a jumping off point. People can put their feet to the pavement and get to work on making changes for the better.

"About how we deal with the issues of jobs, and creating jobs and funding those jobs in our community, and making sure that people are making livable wages. This is about economic opportunity and making sure it's available for everybody and not just a few folks."

During the panel discussion Senator Hughes was joined by Rev. Jesse Jackson and Marc Morialthe, president of the National Urban League.
